Changes in Students: Character Related Training August 6, 2009

In this first DepEd Analysis we have projects that had some success
with  knowledge changing. Percentile change was the change measure.

Too good for Violence, Too Good for Drugs and Violence and Building Decision
Skills
were the three projects that had sufficiently extensive evidence (rightmost
column, “Extent of Evidence”) that also reported large percentile changes
(“Improvement Index”)

Connectivisim: Siemens & Downs Course July 8, 2009

Access to multiple new and wonderful ideas about learning/teaching in increasingly wiredup/connected world.

One MUST have a teaching model that includes helping the learner develop her his development/integrity/learning model AND grading/teaching/communicaating accordingly. When done it will be VASTLY different from the usual educational experience.

“Connectivism course starts Monday…

As mentioned in June, we are offering an open online course on Connectivism. The course begins on Monday and is freely available to anyone with an interest in learning more about the topic. You can sign up for free here. The course outline is also available. And, for a bit more information, I’ve put together a short introductory presentation on how the course operates.
For learners wishing formal credit through University of Manitoba, a paid enrollment option is also available.”

My Two off-line, off-site entry routes for Becoming Connected May 20, 2007

I can make entries from several “locations” into my Becoming Connected, WordPress weblog. This might be a generally useful/adaptable factoid for other blog writers.

  • I can write from blog headquarters at my (this) wordpress site.
  • I can write from my opml outliner (from OPML.Org , a site maintained by Dave Winer, originator of the opml format and creator of Radio Userland, Frontier, outliners)
  • I can write from my MarsEdit application. Mars Edit works with NetNewswire to allow you to read your feeds and write to any of your blogs from a central location. Both were developed and managed by Brent and Sheilah Simmons but have now been acquired by red sweater software

Need a Map of My Blogged/Outlined Mind May 20, 2007

As my previous entry indicates I’ve a number of online set ups.

Clearly WordPress has been a friendly set up environment to me.

My history of weblogging wouldn’t be complete without including my first blog, the one with the most entries and the one that has been around the longest : Connectivity where I’ve written entries since 2002.

The rss feed for education/special education is here — I’ll work on putting together links of the entries as they cluster around single topics. Among those topic past, present and future [in brackets] would be: teaching, schools, personalization, research processes, ethics/justice, personal development, weblogging experience [and -- possibly, learning to drive a hybrid as a personal contribution to saving the planet and to building energy independence].

Projects in Motion December 31, 2006

Serious and extensive recent training and action with PBS, SET, SWIS and now Heart. Swis Technical Assistance, SET assessment, SWIS school assignment (which is probably forthcoming. Also doing heavy lifting with Alternative Education, Evaluation and Grant Writing. Many fine people to collaborate with in Iowa and nationally. I am sincerely looking forward to it.

I would like to be able to insert podcast and Freemind products into the middle of entries–and naturally jpegs. Will learn how to do this in short order, I hope. More, tomorrow on major goals for the upcoming year. As a preparation for this “big goal stating” I have been doing some ontological sketching of the materials and issues I am presently (or have been “traditionally” involved with over my years of professoring, evaluating and consulting. Those sketches have already been helpful in the framing of what I’m up to in some larger sense.

Inserting categories/tags December 31, 2006

Am enjoying leaving the formatting to another system than my “head for html” –which is always less than I would like. I find working in the outline format stress free. There is one hitch, so far, in my use of the outliner.

As far as I can tell the insertion of tags/categories can be done — MarsEdit does it, even after the fact. Just don’t know how to do it in the outlining format.

Using WordPress interface of opml.org December 30, 2006

The Idea

Entry to my WordPress Blog via opml? Sounds terrific. It could mean that I manage knowledge and send communiques from the same interface. Cutting and pasting easier. Shifting gears easier. All in all could be a very good deal!
The reality, as usual, is that I have to feel my way at the start. That’s ok (5/15: the reaiity: couldn’t remember password..
But…figured out what the problem was, the mystery of “cant find atts table” amounted to a mistaken password. It now works.

On Becoming Connected July 10, 2006

Summary: I hope work on ijot and with Word Press should push me into new avenues of blogged communication. I’m also working with Marc Barrot on iJot and Dave Winer’s new OPML site too. We’ll see where it leads. Two new directions come from my recent studies and efforts having to do with Alternative Education and Positive Behavior Supports (aka School Wide Positive Behavioral Supports).
